Hail Mary: An uninteresting, overblown updating of the tale of Christ’s birth, with Mary a student basketball competitor! Even though still a virgin, she finds herself pregnant. This film kindled much dissension and was even condemned by the Pope. Cast includes Myriem Roussel, Thierry Rode, Philippe Lacoste, Manon Anderson, and Juliette Binoche. (107minutes, 1985)
B.O.R.N.: Somebody is abducting youngsters from the roads of L.A. to cut up as organ donors. This weird action thriller has too many characters and too much gunfire, yet it has its good parts too. Cast includes Ross Hagen, Hoke Howell, P. J. Sales, William Smith, Russ Tamblyn, Amanda Blake, Clint Howard, and Claire Hagen. (92 minutes, 1989)
Agency: An eccentric mind bender, loaded with plot deceptions, in regards to imaginative boy (Keyworth) whose dad is a cop and whose mom is blind. The father is chasing a man on a murderous bender in which the people dying are all sightless ladies. The Stalking Moon: An army scout helps a white female who has lived with the Apaches flee from the Indians with her half breed child. Then the boy’s Indian dad comes after them. The film is a convincing and fascinating Western that is both smooth and boring. Cast includes Gregory Peck, Eva Marie Savior, Robert Forster, Noland Clay, Russell Thorson, and Frank Silvera. The Faculty: Ohio high school students who typically don?t get along with each other band together as they discover that their professors are being taken over by alien beings. Cast includes Elijah Wood, Salma Hayek, Piper Laurie, Famke Janssen, Chris McDonald, Robert Patrick, Bebe Neuwirth, Clea DuVall, Laura Harris, Shawn Hatosy, Guide Raymond, Jon Stewart, and Daniel von Bargen. The Slave: Interminable Italian spectacle. A child of Spartacus learns of the tale of his dad and promises retribution. The excellent photography is the only positive aspect of this film. Cast includes Steve Reeves, Jacques Semas, Gianna Maria Canale, and Claudio Gora. (102 minutes, 1963)
Macabre: Strange goings on in small town where physician’s youthful daughter mysteriously disappears and a nameless telephone hailer declares that the kid has been buried alive. Cast includes William Prince, Jim Backus, Christine White, and Jacqueline Scott. (73 minutes, 1958)
Patton: This milestone in biographies finds Scott vivid as offbeat, radiant General George Patton, whose temper often erupts on demand during WW2. Malden is comparably impressive as General Omar Bradley in this intelligently written, finely wrought biographical war drama. Cast includes George C. Scott, Karl Malden, Stephen Youthful, Michael Hefty, Frank Latimore, James Edwards, Lawrence Dobkin, Michael Bates, and Tim Considine. (169 minutes, 1970)
