Laws of Attraction: N.Y.C. divorce attorney Moore has never lost a case but meets her match in cunning adversary Brosnan, who additionally manages to get her to let her guard down. A Guy Named Joe: Excellent cast flounders in this lazy fantasy film in reference to WW2 guide Tracy returning from the heavens to give youthful serviceman Johnson a hand in his romance with Tracy’s former lady friend Dunne. Cast includes Spencer Tracy, Irene Dunne, Van Johnson, Ward Bond, James Gleason, Lionel Barrymore, Barry Nelson, Esther Williams, and Don Defoe. (120 minutes, 1943)

Alice Sweet Alice: For profit spacecraft unwittingly takes on an extraterrestrial being that wreaks ruthless chaos on the team. This space age terror film reverts to the 1950’s style, although unfolds at a determinate pace, populates the tale with fascinating, vibrant characters, and plants its good scenes very nicely. Cast includes Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, John Hurt, Ian Holm, Harry Dean Stanton, Yaphet Kotto, and Veronica Cartwright. (117 minutes, 1979)

The Last Time I Saw Archie: Webb’s lone try at comedy has less laughs than some of his more serious films; a shame, since William Bowers’ script-based on his own Army experiences had genuine potential, and Mitchum pleasantly underplays his role as the con guy. By the way, the genuine Archie Chamber sued for invasion of privacy. Cast includes Robert Mitchum, Jack Webb, Martha Hyer, France Nuyen, Louis Nye, Richard Arlen, Don Tangles, Joe Flynn, and Robert Strauss. (98 minutes, 1961)

No Man Is an Island: The spotty production values harm this real tale of serviceman Hunter stuck on Guam throughout the 3 years the Japanese controlled the region. Cast includes John Friars, Jr., Richard Goldstone. Jeffrey Hunter, Marshall Thompson, Barbara Perez, Ronald Remy, Paul Edwards, Jr., Rolf Bayer, and Vicente Uwanag. (114 minutes, 1962)

House of the Dead: This is a low-grade terror film, based on the video game, which charts the predictable destinies of some addle brained youngsters drawn to an island inhabited by zombies. Sloppily made and mind numbingly inept. Cast includes Jonathan Cherry, Tyron Leitso, Clint Howard, Ona Grauer, Ellie Cornell, Can Sanderson, and Enuka Okuma. (92 minutes, 2003)
